Busy Bees International Preschool provides special environments for children based on the
insights and experience of Dr. Maria Montessori. We believe that:
- The Montessori philosophy is more than the materials in the classroom, or the teacher giving
lessons. It is an attitude towards children, a way of understanding their unique nature and
allowing them to grow and develop to their fullest potential
- It is a natural desire of children to explore, discover, and learn
- A prepared classroom environment allows children to freely satisfy their desire to learn
- Freedom, when appropriately bounded by responsibility, fosters independence and social growth
- Children learn best when they are active participants in the learning process
- A multi-sensory approach to learning best accommodates the needs of all our children
- An individualized curriculum allows children to develop according to their own natural
time-table and sequence
- A non-competitive classroom environment strengthens community bonds and a child's intrinsic
motivation to learn
- Multi-age groupings provide opportunities for peer teaching, leadership development
and natural social interactions
- Teachers act as facilitators, rather than active instructors, in the classroom
- All work is set out in such a way that children can use the materials with the
minimum of adult assistance
- The children's activities in the classroom are given proper recognition: play
becomes their work. Because they are treated as important individuals, the children's
sense of personal value is deepened
- Learning is enjoyable, challenging, and absorbing. Children are encouraged to
finish a task once started. The classroom structure itself ensures that successes
are many, failures few
- At Busy bees we believe each child has a right to be loved and respected. Through
the development of a positive partnership with parents and the provision of a child
centred environment we believe we can achieve these rights for the children in our care
